A gift wrapped but never sent. Delicate is her trust; When earned it’s beautiful and treasured, but the sheer material can be ripped easily. A painting that I could either allow to haunt me, or use intentionally as a tool to make peace with the fact that peoples’ opinions of me will vary, shifting based on the stories that they’re told, and their own life experience. This portrait encourages me to reflect on who I know I really am, and to make peace with losses that have been influenced by misinterpretation, bias and/or miscommunication.
